On Sept. 25, Melba Davidson of Nelson celebrated 100 years of a glorious life. Melba finally settled down in Queens Bay and Nelson 26 years ago after a storied life of service, travel, and adventure.
She was born on Sept. 25, 1922, in Innisfail, Alta., the youngest of six siblings. Melba has ridden elephants in India, was labelled a spy in Russian-occupied Afghanistan, rode motorcycles in Indonesia, visited lamas in Nepal, and explored much of Central America, among other adventures.
Along the way she served in the military in the Second World War, went bust farming, supported the pipeline construction across Canada, and raised four wild boys on her own after being widowed at 38.
Her main explanation for her longevity is living a life of kindness. She remains a beacon of inspiration and guidance as the matriarch of a very large extended family. She is greatly loved.
