Nelson Air Cadets have successful summer

Local cadets were training at camps across Western Canada

Over the summer, several cadets from 561 Nelson Osprey Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Cadets attended summer training at cadet training centres in Western Canada.

Four cadets were at the Albert Head Cadet Training Centre near Victoria. At Albert Head, three cadets attended the general training two-week course and one cadet took the six-week fitness and sports instructor course.

Three cadets were at the Vernon Cadet Training Centre. Two cadets attended the three-week basic fitness and sports course and one cadet spent six weeks employed as an instructor and cadet leader. Ryley Thompson was the top cadet in her basic fitness and sports platoon.

Two cadets were at the Cold Lake Cadet Training Centre in Alberta. One cadet was on the three-week basic aviation course and one cadet on the six-week survival instructor course.

The squadron starts its 2018-19 training rear on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 6:15 p.m. in the Nelson Eagles Hall, 641 Baker St.
