The West Kootenay Hiking Guidebook is coming to the Kootenays in May 2025.
The book features 77 of the best hiking trails in the West Kootenay region of southeast British Columbia.
The author, Abby Wilson, also runs the popular West Kootenay Hiking website.
“The goal of West Kootenay Hiking is to encourage people to explore our local trails with the best knowledge and preparedness,” says Wilson. “I am excited to bring my vision into a printed book that has clear layouts, detailed topographic maps, and elevation profiles. Readers can even scan QR codes in the book to get GPS files delivered straight to their favourite navigation app.”
The guidebook includes trails with a range of difficulty levels, seasons, and access vehicles, and includes special features like waterfalls, old growth trees, golden larches, or local history. Each chapter of the book focuses on a smaller region within the West Kootenay and highlights the contributions of local trail societies.
“I’m so grateful for the strong support from our outdoors community,” says Wilson. “I am self-publishing this guidebook and have been writing, editing, mapmaking, designing layouts, consulting stakeholders, project managing, you name it! I am thrilled to have met my initial funding goal within 24 hours of opening up preorders on my website. People are excited for this book!”
Pre-orders for the book are open until March 1 and can be made on Wilson’s website: abbywilson.ca. The book will be available in May 2025 through local retailers as well as the author.
