The Nelson Community Food Centre (NCFC) is celebrating the season with its annual Festive Food Days.

Good Food Bank program participants will have access to healthy, festive foods, and a number of specialty items. New this year, community meals will be offered on alternating Wednesdays with a special holiday feast on Dec. 18.

Festive Food Days are now underway and run until the last (special!) Good Food Bank day before the holidays on Dec. 24. Program participants will get to choose from a variety of specialty items. Things like cheese, butter, poultry (and veggie options), granola, pancake mix, baked goods, cranberry sauce, and more will be on offer. Community meals will also feature some seasonal favourites and treats. To learn more, go to www.nelsoncfc.ca and click on the Calendar tab.

The NCFC is looking for donations to help these programs bring some happiness into the holiday season for our community. To make it more real for you, know that $75 dollars provides for a single person, $175 provides for a small family and $275 provides for a large family. Visit nelsoncfc.ca to make a donation.

The convergence of high rents and food costs, and many other factors impacting Nelsonites, means more people are visiting the Food Centre. Healthy food can make a big difference.

As part of the celebration, Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy is providing books for all ages and Sox for Change will be sending us merino neck warmers to share. By spreading out the festivities over several weeks, the intention is to help as many people facing adversity as possible, for as long as possible. This is in contrast to the one-day hamper approach we phased out several years ago.

For more information about how to make a donation (and how it will be put to use), call Andrew Creighton at 250-551-0305. If you would like to donate through the organization’s website, visit nelsoncfc.ca and click the donate button. Note that the NCFC will be closed for Dec. 25-26 and  Jan. 1-2 in 2025.
