The Nelson Community Food Centre (Nelson CFC)’s Good Food Bank program will be moving temporarily while we renovate our community kitchen. The Nelson Covenant Church, at 702 Stanley St. has been kind enough to offer us the use of their lower hall for the duration of the renovation, which will take two-to-three months and begins March 1.

Good Food Bank hours will be Tuesdays, noon to 2 p.m., and Wednesdays, 1 to 4 p.m.

The Good Food Bank is one of four main programs offered by the Nelson CFC. Though the Garden and Harvest Rescue programs are gearing up for warmer days, the organization’s Food Skills program is on pause until the renovations are complete and cooking classes, and more, can take place in the new kitchen.

The kitchen renovation is the third phase of the renovation initiative. Phases one and two saw the renovation of the lower hall open-space and Nelson CFC offices. Phase three will bring the kitchen up to commercial standards, making it more accessible and functional. It will also be more welcoming and will help us deliver on our mission to create opportunities for people facing adversity to share, connect and advocate around good food.

This is all good news for Nelson CFC program participants, staff and volunteers — as well as for the Nelson United Church and the many other community groups that will be cooking in the kitchen.
