In lieu of the annual Canada Day pancake breakfast and other Lions Club fundraising events, cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Nelson Lions Club hosted two drive-in movie nights at the foot of Baker Street on June 28 and 29.
The movies shown were Disney’s Onward and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Gate proceeds raised $1,365 thanks to the donations from those in attendance, and community partner Nelson and District Credit Union (NDCU) generously contributed an additional $3,000 to help support our local food agencies. This resulted in cheques of $1,455 paid to the Salvation Army Food Bank, Our Daily Bread and the Nelson Community Food Program.
Representatives from the Lions Club of Nelson and the NDCU handed out cheques to local food agencies on July 10.
“As a credit union and a community, helping is at our heart,” says Tom Atkins of the NDCU. “These days the NDCU family sees an important need to support our community, to ensure we are healthy and thriving during these unprecedented times. We understand that our members are facing challenging times right now.”
The Lions Club of Nelson also gratefully acknowledges additional donations and contributions from Nelson Home Building Centre, Nelson Chrysler, Blue Sky Clothing Co., Trowlex Rentals (Castlegar), and Glacier Honda.
