Nelson Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance to raise money for the BC Special Olympics.

The first fundraiser will be COPSICLE 2022. On Feb. 25 at 3:00 p.m., Nelson police officers will be accompanied by Nelson RCMP, Nelson Sheriff Services, Nelson Conservation Officer Service and all other first responders who would like to join. The group will stay on to the roof of the Adventure Hotel with the goal of raising $1,000 in donations. They will stay on the roof until the goal is reached.

To assist in getting the first responders down off the roof, donations can be made at https://bit.ly/3v6bzfs.

That web address is also the site of another police department fundraiser, Cold in the Koots, in which department members will plunge into the frigid waters of Kootenay Lake once their fundraising goal of $3,000 is met.

The Polar Plunge for Special Olympics BC is an international event.

“The pandemic has had a long-lasting, far-reaching impact on athletes with intellectual disabilities, who were already far too familiar with the pain of isolation, on Special Olympics BC,” the police department stated in a news release. “More than ever, we need your support to rebuild all of our year-round, in-person sport programs that create empowering connections, open hearts and minds to inclusion, and break down barriers.”
