The performance dance team from the Nelson School of Dance won gold in musical theatre and in contemporary dance at the Danceworks Festival in Kimberley in April.
The team, under the direction of Karin Palinka, also scored high marks at the Great Canadian Dance Challenge in Kelowna, receiving first and second place for many solo performances. Sylvie Palinka won first place in her Jazz 15 -16 category and won a prestigious $750 scholarship and invitation to a dance intensive in Los Angles with one of L.A’s top choreographers.
The 14-member team also competed this year in the Castlegar Dance Competition, Festival of the Arts (Trail), and the Motivate Dance Competition (Trail).
The Nelson School of Dance will perform their Sparkle & Shine Year End Showcase on June 13 at the Capitol Theatre at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $20.00.
