A USA Today poll has determined Nelson is the second best ski town in North America.
The online vote ended Nov. 20, with Nelson placed behind only North Conway, New Hampshire, out of 20 communities.
“Located not far from Whitewater Ski Resort, the town of Nelson has personality in spades,” reads the poll’s description of Nelson.
“On the shores of Kootenay Lake and surrounded by the Selkirk Mountains, Nelson sees rugged adventurers rub elbows with hippies and bohemians in its excellent cafes, bars and galleries centred around pedestrian-friendly Baker Street.”
The only other Canadian communities included in the vote were Revelstoke, which finished sixth, and Whistler, which was not listed in the top 10.
