The Nelson Waldorf School (NWS) is excited to welcome Jamie Simon as new head of school.

“Over the past weeks, I have felt such a warm welcome from the people I’ve met at the school and the greater community,” says Simon. “It is already so clear to me that NWS would not be where it is today without the support of the community. I look forward to building upon our past, and looking toward a bright future together.”

The coming months and years will bring to fruition a number of initiatives including a greater presence in the community, and a rededication to learning about, appreciating, and protecting the natural environment.

Simon brings with her 20 years of successful executive leadership positions and a world championship title in Freestyle Kayaking. She received her Bachelor of Science in education and her MBA in Sustainable Development, and has spent the last four years building Waldorf programs in the Tahoe/Truckee, Calif., area.

Simon also served as CEO, managing partner/co-founder, director and manager in various companies and organizations over the past 20 years.

The family is very excited to be making a new start in the Kootenays, after spending many vacations in the area. It is also a return to home for Jamie’s husband, John.

The Nelson Waldorf School is an independent school with a student-centred, holistic approach to education. With emphasis placed not only on academics, but also social justice, environmental stewardship, and critical thinking, Waldorf students receive an education for life.

Enrolment for the 2021-22 academic year opens in February 2021. For more information please visit www.nelsonwaldorf.org.
