School District 8 has announced new principals for Nelson Wildflower School and Salmo Elementary.

Dr. Nick Graves will take over as principal for Wildflower on Jan. 1, 2024. Graves is currently principal of Lucerne Elementary Secondary in New Denver as well as the Arrow Lakes Online Learning School in School District 10.

“Our search for an exceptional principal to lead Nelson Wildflower is now complete. I’m very happy to share with our Wildflower families, students, and staff that we have highly skilled and experienced leaders and educators in place for the coming school year to support this wonderful, unique program,” said superintendent Trish Smillie in a statement.

Rod Giles will serve as Wildflower’s interim principal through September followed by district principal Naomi Ross until Graves’ arrival.

Graves takes over the role for Misty Terpstra, who is transferring to become principal of Salmo Elementary.
