Jade Eaton of Nelson is this year's recipient of the $1,000 June Lythgoe Music Scholarship.

The award is presented annually by the Echo Vocal Arts Alliance, formerly known as the Amy Ferguson Institute.

Eaton will be entering her first year of study at University of Victoria in the Bachelors of Music Vocal Performance program, and the scholarship will be used to offset her tuition for the upcoming year.

Eaton has been surrounding herself with music for over a decade. She has participated in numerous choirs including SongCore, VoixVive, Solstice and Corazón. She has also been a part of the the Capitol Theatre’s Summer Youth Theatre Program performing in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, James and Giant Peach, Peter and the Starcatcher, Little Women and Newsies.

Along with others from the local community, the Lythgoe family founded the Amy Ferguson Institute in 2000. June Lythgoe passed away in 2006, and subsequently the June Lythgoe Music Scholarship was established, in collaboration with the Osprey Foundation, to provide a $1,000 scholarship to one recipient residing in the West Kootenay region to further their musical studies.
