In just one week, families and friends will be gathering together to celebrate Thanksgiving, at least that is the perception. For many, it is impossible to afford a turkey, or they don’t have the capacity to cook a turkey, or are alone and don’t want to eat by themselves.
Community and eating together is the hallmark for a healthy society. That is what Thanksgiving used to be all about. We, at Our Daily Bread, want to provide that experience again. Therefore, we are inviting the community to come together as friends and family to enjoy a full turkey meal with all the trimmings at Our Daily Bread (520 Falls St. on Friday, Oct. 7 from 12 to 1 p.m.
A large portion of the people that come to Our Daily Bread are seniors. They come and enjoy social time together, some play cards or read books and then they enjoy a good meal with each other. Our Daily Bread is essential to their physical health as it provides a well balanced meal, but it also provides emotional benefit. If you are older, with a low-to-moderate income, choices are limited. At ODB we provide a safe and inviting environment for people of all ages, which seniors truly benefit from.
Since 2002, ODB has been serving meals five days per week to 50-to-70 people per day, 27 per cent of which are over 60 years old.
ODB is entirely supported through community donations, business partnerships, and the countless volunteers who make the daily operations a success.
