Climate Week hosted 25 events in and around Nelson

Earth Week in Nelson culminated in a parade on Baker Street on Sunday, ending at the Youth Centre with music, games, food and booths.

Throughout the week the event hosted 25 activities, including film showings, craft instruction, performances, nature walks, ceremonies, celebrations and a beach clean-up, as well as workshops and panel discussions on native plants, food security, forestry, transportation, birding and more. There were also 70 entrants in a design competition for youth that asked for a prototype re-design for an everyday item.

The week was organized by the West Kootenay Climate Hub. Volunteer organizer Judith Fearing said activities were decided by the community.

"We threw a net out to the community and said, 'What would you like to do?' And all kinds of people came through. It's a real demonstration of people doing what they love, what they're passionate about, and leaning into climate action. And it's been a real success."
