Regional District of Central Kootenay staff in Nelson are reducing their carbon footprint by leaving their cars at home this week as part of the nationwide Commuter Challenge Week.

“Our staff are already very good at using green modes of transport, but we wanted to encourage everyone to try leaving their cars at home where possible,” says Vicky Issott, the RDCK event organizer.

“We’re adding some healthy competition by offering prizes and hosted a ‘green commuters’ breakfast to kick-start the event and motivate participants.”

As a member of Carbon Neutral Kootenays, the RDCK is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions. The RDCK urges everyone to participate in the Commuter Challenge by registering at  commuterchallenge.ca. By walking, biking, carpooling, or taking public transit, you’ll save money, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and get some exercise!
