Nelson paramedic Corey Viala hopes his return home has done some good for those in need.

Viala was on hand Saturday as the Nelson Ambulance Station opened its doors to raise money for Honour House, a Vancouver refuge for active and retired medical and emergency services personnel while they receive medical care.

Viala has been visiting communities during a two-week tour, and was part of a parade through downtown Saturday that included RCMP, city police, Nelson Fire and Rescue, and Nelson Search and Rescue.

A $71,000 donation was presented to Honour House by Ambulance Paramedics of BC CUPE 873 during the event.
