Compliments flowed about the value of Rotary Leadership Institute training as the first class of 15 graduates of the program celebrated at the historic Hume Hotel in Nelson on February 26.
The class, consisting of Rotarians from eight area clubs, completed the three-part program over the course of the past year and a half.
All agreed that learning through a facilitated group process had enriched their lives as well as contributing to their personal knowledge about Rotary and leadership.
A young business owner commented that the leadership skills that he had acquired were relevant in his business as well as Rotary. A seasoned Rotarian felt increased confidence in being a resource to newer as well as more experienced Rotarians.
It is hoped that 100 graduates from throughout the district will receive RLI certificates signed by the president of Rotary International at the district conference in June.
Training is a critical component for Rotarians as Rotary strives to make the world a better place by eliminating polio worldwide, creating significant service projects locally and worldwide to develop literacy skills, improve maternal and child health, economic development and promote peace and conflict resolution.
