Cindy Henderson, a Nelson Save on Foods employee of three years, was recognized within the grocery store chain for her commitment to to supporting diversity. She received $500 to donate to charity and decided to give the money to Kootenay Trans Connect, an organization the supports transgender and gender variant people. Henderson volunteers with several local women's and LGBT organizations. She told her story of living as a transgender woman in the documentary Rural Transcapes released earlier this year. Save on Foods employees celebrated Henderson's accomplishments with cake and an award presentation at the store.
