This year, in conjunction with World Kindness Day, local organizations are joining together to put on Kootenay Culture of Kindness.
World Kindness Day takes place on Nov. 13, and Kootenay Kids, Nelson Community Services, Circle of Indigenous Nations Society, Kutenai Art Therapy Institute, and Videa are encouraging members of the community to come together with small (or big) acts of kindness to create safe and more inclusive spaces for our youth.
We love our vibrant community and are proud of our youth and want them to thrive. In order for this to happen, everyone must feel safe and celebrated. Gender-based violence, racialized violence, and divisive comments around our 2SLGBTQ+IA community are harmful actions that prevent people from feeling protected and hinder youth from being able to flourish freely and unapologetically.
In order to help create a radically accepting community, we ask everyone who is able to participate in kindness acts — whether it is as small as complimenting a stranger or as large as running a workshop. We have launched social media pages in order to keep everyone involved as well as be able to share and promote their own acts of kindness! Through our social media, folks will have access to information, resources and giveaways. Together, let’s inspire and cultivate a safe, accepting, and inclusive community.
