The Regional District of Central Kootenay is offering a free public skate for families featuring Santa Claus on Dec. 17 at the Nelson and District Community Complex.
KidSport will provide a holiday activity table, treats, and hot chocolate. Free skate and helmet rentals will be offered, although equipment availability is limited.
Attendees are encouraged to make a monetary donation to KidSport’s Give the Gift of Sport campaign as well as food items for a Nelson food bank.
The 11th annual Give the Gift of Sport fundraising campaign calls on Canadians to donate online at www.KidSport.ca/GiftofSport. Choose your local chapter from the drop-down menu. All money raised locally stays local.
KidSport is a national not-for-profit organization that helps remove financial barriers that prevent kids from playing sports by providing assistance for registration fees to children aged 18 and under. Through a confidential application process, grants are given so they can play a season of sport. In Nelson, grants up to $500 are available per child annually.
Since its creation in 2007, KidSport Nelson has disbursed over and helped over 1,500 kids from our region receive grants and sport introduction programming.
