Kaslo's Grade 5-6 students are learning how to plan and market a community builder and school fundraiser by hosting a public square dance at J.V. Humphries on Friday, May 9, from 7-9 p.m.

Louis Bockner, a JVH grad, will be calling the dances, accompanied by five well-known local musicians: Yvonne Boyd, Aurora Smith, Reid Smith, Roger Luckey and Kit Ashenhurst.

Students will work shifts on May 9, including helping our musicians set up, greeting, selling tickets at the door, acting as emcees and running the concession stand.

“We’re tremendously grateful to Louis and the musicians for their time," says JVH teacher Phil Fertey. "With this kind of support, we hope that ticket proceeds will help make the purchase of a new sound system possible for the school’s drama program and other audio needs through the year.”

This all-ages event is a great way to celebrate community, while supporting J.V. Humphries, one of the many crown jewels of Kaslo!

Tickets are available at Sunnyside and at the JVH front desk. Ages 14+ $10 / Youth (6-13) $5 / Under-five free / Family (up to five) $25.
