Stepping Stones, the Nelson-based emergency shelter serving the West Kootenay area, is holding a blanket drive. Between now and Oct. 31, Stepping Stones is requesting donations of sleeping bags, blankets and camping gear.

Now that the cooler months are approaching, those who are without housing will be turning to Stepping Stones for temporary shelter. If the shelter is full there may be times when people are forced to sleep outside. With community donations like blankets and camping gear people will be warmer and dryer this fall and winter.

If you have new or slightly used sleeping bags, blankets, tents or camping gear and would like to donate, please drop off at 816 Vernon Street. Donations of these specific items will be greatly appreciated.

Stepping Stones is a program of the Nelson CARES Society and has been in operation in Nelson since December 2004.
