Nelson SPCA’s popular summer camp program wraps up this week, after a month of fun, education and time spent with the animals.

“In all, we had 66 of kids participate in our camps,” says branch manager Rob Andrew. “For children who love being around animals, this is a perfect summertime place to be.”

The camps offer a variety of activities, including outdoor and indoor games, guest speakers, hands-on creative projects and at least 45 minutes per day of interaction with specially selected and approved animals. All activities have been designed by the BC SPCA to incorporate positive animal welfare themes.

Campers love the hands-on time with animals throughout the week, says Andrew. At the end of the week, they better understand how to interact with the animals and how they came into the care of the SPCA.

“We work to create a unique experience for the kids — it’s a win for the campers and the animals,” says Andrew.
