Kids lined up to compete in a slow race on the opening night of Fat Tire festivities Friday.

A fleet of kids on bikes tossed their training wheels and took over Baker Street on Friday.

The 21st annual Fat Tire Festival kicked off in earnest with a parade downtown. The tikes on tires appeared happy to flout street traffic laws as they pedalled their way past patient car drivers.

The party, which included a packed Market Fest, opened a weekend of bike celebrations that moved to Morning Mountain on Saturday and Sunday.
