L.V. Rogers student Lena Price self-identifies as a member of Ravenclaw.

The Harry Potter fan, who plans to dress as Luna Lovegood for an upcoming costume gala, has read all the books and seen all the movies. Now she’s hoping Nelson fans will join her for an afternoon of revelry on Dec. 10, but be forewarned: villains may be showing up too.

“We’ve heard there may be Dementors,” said Price, who is organizing the event along with her peers in the Amnesty International Group.

“And right now there’s a feud between our three hosts about who will be Ron and who will be Harry.”

The event is the second annual gala benefiting Amnesty International, and the funds raised will go towards Syrian refugees.

“I’m from Doukhobor heritage, so to hear about the struggle of the immigrant experience hits close to home for me,” said Price.

“So far the Canadian government has taken in around 36,000 refugees and it’s my personal belief we could take way more. We decided to put on this event because we think the issues around the refugee crisis are still prevalent, even if it’s drifted to the back of people’s minds.”

Student tickets for the event are $8 and adults are $10. The event will be held at the Nelson Civic Theatre starting at 3 p.m., with a screening of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets starting at 4 p.m.
