Ymir Watershed Action Team (YWAT) will hold a community meeting about what the local residents can do to support the protection of Ymir’s precious water resources.

The community meeting will take place at the Ymir Community Hall at First Avenue and Cherry Street, Ymir, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday.

“YWAT and the Ymir community remain firm in our resolve to protect our community’s only source of drinking water,” said spokesperson Jason Leus.

The Ymir community meeting will cover:

• An update on continued provincial government efforts to compromise the Ymir-Quartz Creek consumptive use watershed through industrial roadways, helicopter-pads, and commercial development.

• Short- and long-term effects on the community’s fragile consumptive use watershed if the government’s industrial use plan goes ahead, including the likely exposure of acid rock.

• A community dialogue, led by YWAT board member Isabelle Herzig on creating a community focused plan for the protection of Ymir’s water and watershed.

• Multiple opportunities to volunteer and support the protection of Ymir’s watershed by joining a Ymir Community Action Team.

“As always, YWAT welcomes all local communities, pro-water and watershed activists, and local supporters of small consumptive use water systems, who wish to support Ymir in this action,” said Leus.
