Youth gather to discuss justice

The Catholic Diocese of Nelson is sponsoring a Youth Justice Rally in Nelson on February 26 and 27 at St. Joseph’s school. One hundred youth in grades 7 to 12 from across the diocese — Kelowna to Sparwood — will gather to discuss how as young people they can participate in the work of justice in their home parishes. As well, they will participate in justice activities and actions while here in Nelson.

Hitting the halfway mark at a torrid pace

We’re halfway through the year. Yes! Well, with the new semester, there are some new programs and such going on. Some of the students from the Ace-It program are back at the school, and the Atlas kids are off to start some new adventures. These two courses are offered as an alternative to sitting in the classroom, and they give you hands-on skills in a variety of areas that will help the student to gain work experience.

The West Kootenay EcoSociety presents the 15th Annual Seedy Sunday on March 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Legion Hall. For all the seed swappers, conservers, developers and newcomers, this is the place where you can learn to save, seed and grow your own garden, reduce your carbon footprint, protect plant biodiversity, obtain local knowledge, and meet people who share the same interest all at the same time.

Sure sign of spring in Slocan Park

On Saturday, March 5, Slocan Valley Recreation will once again be hosting the annual Kid’s Zone Buy and Sell. This popular event is being held at the Slocan Park Hall and runs from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Every spring the swap gets kids cleaning out their closets and cupboards and finding items they’ve outgrown, to bring them some cold hard cash just in time for spring break.
