More than 100 people took in the launch Thursday at Touchstones Nelson for Frances Welwood's new biography of Annie Garland Foster, Passing Through Missing Pages.

Foster was the first woman elected to Nelson city council, and later ran for mayor. She also had a dark secret, which Welwood reveals in the book.

Present councillor Donna Macdonald was master of ceremonies. In all, 19 women have served on city council — three others were present for the launch, along with two hopefuls running in next month's election.
