The Cheng2 Duo, presented by the Nelson Overture Concerts Society, are set to dazzle Nelson audiences once again on March 15 at 7:30 p.m.

The Ottawa-born sibling duo of cellist Bryan Cheng and pianist Silvie Cheng are rising young virtuosos quickly making their mark on the international stage. Recently featured on CBC’s list of “30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30,” the duo made their Carnegie Hall debut in 2011.

They have since toured throughout North America, Europe, and China, and have released three critically acclaimed albums.

The New York Concert Review encapsulated Cheng2 Duo’s special bond. “The New York recital debut of Bryan and Silvie Cheng was infused with a spirit of thoughtfulness and generosity. The obvious affection between the two siblings extends beyond the familial sphere into the audience, and most importantly, into the music itself.”

As the first laureate of the 2018 Canada Council for the Arts’ Musical Instrument Bank Competition, Bryan Cheng will perform on the coveted ca. 1696 “Bonjour” Stradivarius cello. He was also the Grand Prize Winner of the 2019 Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal Competition. Silvie Cheng was the recipient of the Roy M. Rubinstein Award for exceptional promise in piano performance.

The duo will perform an exciting program highlighting works of the cello and piano repertoire including Shostakovich’s Cello Sonata in D minor, and Francis Poulenc’s Cello Sonata.

Tickets are available at the Capitol Theatre in person, by phone, or online at www.capitoltheatre.ca. Admission is free for students aged 18 and under. Individual tickets: $27.50. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
