Former Nelson man shows up on The Office

Former Nelsonite Thomas Middleditch appeared in an episode of the popular NBC television series The Office last that aired last Thursday.

Middleditch, an alumnus of LV Rogers secondary school who moved to Hollywood after studying theatre at University of BC, got his break through the comedy website College Humor and has appeared in several TV series and movies, including playing the role of Travis in The Campaign with Will Ferrell.

For The Office episode he was cast as Dwight's (Rainn Wilson) brother, Jeb Schrute, a farmer who grows medical marijuana in California.

The episode was originally filmed as a pilot for an Office spinoff called The Farm, about the Schrute family beet farm/bed and breakfast. Though NBC passed on the spinoff idea, the episode still made its way into The Office's final season.

Meanwhile, Middleditch is now working with Beavis and Butthead creator Mike Judge on a pilot episode for a potential HBO series called Silicon Valley, a dark comedy about San Francisco of software developers. Filming for that project, according to the website hbowatch.com, began last week.
