L V Rogers Secondary School is presenting four performances of Radium Girls, a two-act play based on the actual events at the U.S. Radium Corp. in Orange, New Jersey in the 1920s.

Inspired by a true story, the docudrama traces the efforts of Grace Fryer, a dial painter, as she fights for her day in court. In 1926, radium was a miracle cure and luminous watches the latest rage – until the girls who painted them began to fall ill with a mysterious disease.

“They paid with their lives. Their final fight was for justice,” said a release about the production, which was written by D.W. Gregory.

Directed by LVR teacher Robyn Sheppard, about 30 LVR students are involved in the performance, scheduled for March 1-4 at the Capitol Theatre.

There is a core cast of 10 performers, featuring Grace Fryer (played by Kailey Sanquist), Arthur Roeder (Liam Dignam), Kathryn Schuab (Amelia Ford) and Tom Krieder (Noah Srahulek-Kingsley).

The shows are scheduled for March 1, 2 and 3 at 7 p.m. and March 4 at 2 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at www.capitoltheatre.bc.ca or by called 250-352-6363.
