Get your kilt fitted and blow the dust off your bagpipes for the annual Robbie Burns dinner at the Nelson Eagles Hall.
Hosted by the Kootenay Kiltie Pipe Band, the celebration of Scottish culture will include a traditional banquet of haggis, roast beef and “neeps and tatties.”
“There’s a lot of Scottish heritage in Nelson,” said Derek Marcoux, president of the Kootenay Kiltie Pipe Band.
“We actually have one of the highest number of Scottish immigrants per capita, so there’s a lot of people who have some interest in coming out and celebrating the Scottish culture.”
The Nelson event is just one Robbie Burns dinner of many occurring all over the world to celebrate the 1800s era poet.
Beginning at 5:30 p.m. on January 21, the event will include a performance by the Kootenay Kiltie Pipe Band followed by a highland dance and poetry, all to honour the quintessential Scottish poet, Robert Burns.
Tickets for the evening are $28 for adults and $14 for children under 10. Space is limited, but tickets can be reserved by calling 250-352-6104 or 250-825-4175. Proceeds from the event go to support the Kootenay Kiltie Pipe Band.
