Nelson Community Band to host Christmas concert Dec. 13

It’s the band’s first holiday show in three years

The Nelson Community Band will hold its first Christmas concert in three years on Dec. 13. We are so looking forward to playing for you!

Under the direction of Laura Johnson, the band will bring you many seasonal favourites. Can you identify the Leroy Anderson?

There is more than Christmas on the playbill, including two of our favourites by Gustav Holst, whose first suite was premiered in 1920, followed by his second in 1922.

Ian Hartline’s clarinet virtuosity shines in the featured clarinet piece Viktor’s Tale, from the soundtrack of the movie The Terminal.

The Nelson Band is truly a community treasure, playing at Canada Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies. In addition, members play Christmas carols on the street each December, and collect money for the Nelson Food Cooperative. In the past they have collected over $1,000 in donations thanks to the generosity of the shoppers of Nelson.

The Dec. 13 concert will be held at First Baptist Church Nelson, 611 5th St., at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10, youth 18 and under are free.
