Over a hundred dancers will perform at the Capitol this weekend.

Prepare to see some extremely talented young people.

This Friday and Saturday over 100 Nelson dancers will take the Capitol Theatre stage, with Allegro Dance Theatre and the L.V. Rogers Dance Program joining together with special guests.

“They’re athletes, but they’re artists as well,” dance instructor Lynette Lightfoot told the Star during a visit to her Front St. Studio space.

“Whether or not these young people will go on a professional route, they gain so much from these dance experiences. They have a whole new knowledge of their bodies, and there’s a real cameraderie there.”

Lightfoot is excited that students will be showcasing their choreography. During their rehearsal on Monday Carly Bennett was leading the dancers through a dance number she had created. Other dancers taking on leadership roles include Ava Koeltgen, Quinn Barron and Deidre McCrory.

The showcases will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, then at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Each show will be unique and different, with performers from all over Nelson and Kaslo.

“We’re doing musical theatre, classical ballet, jazz pretty much every genre of dance,” said Lightfoot. “You’re going to see some extremely talented people on that stage.”
