Award-winning Canadian pianist Charles Richard-Hamelin will take the stage on Feb. 21 at the Capitol Theatre at 7:30 p.m., presented by the Nelson Overture Concerts Society.

Richard-Hamelin is one of the leading pianists of his generation. He was the silver medalist at the 2015 International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw and the second prize winner at the Montreal International Music Competition in 2014.

He has recorded over 10 albums, the latest of which earned him a JUNO award in 2022. Richard-Hamelin regularly performs with the leading Canadian orchestras, at Chopin festivals throughout Canada, the USA and Europe, and at numerous prestigious music festivals.

The program will feature Richard-Hamelin’s well-known prowess for the music of Chopin. Audiences will be treated to Chopin’s Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor as well as two of his beloved Nocturnes. Also on the program are works by Mozart and Brahms.

“Richard-Hamelin has bold, original ideas about the music he plays, the emotional reservoirs to back them up and the technical equipment to convey them without distraction,” says Gramophone magazine.

Tickets are available at the Capitol Theatre in person, by phone, or online at www.capitoltheatre.ca. Admission is free for students aged 18 and under. Individual tickets: $29. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
