Nelson’s favourite visitor will be making the trip over the Salmo-Creston Pass to entertain audiences for two weekends.
Randy from Creston: Tellin’ it Like it Iz is a new show by local funnyman and performer Lucas Myers.
“I did the fundraiser at the Nelson Women’s Centre and I did the Backyard Booty and I thought what if I did Randy? What if he came up from Creston? He’s just so fun and everyone understands him and gets him so I thought I’m just going to go for it,” said Myers.
Randy comes from a world of simple truths, good times and poor impulse control. A world where “party” is spelled with a “d”, where the smoke is always thick and the riffs are always heavy.
Myers said Randy had appeared in several shows since his first, Dress.
“In Dress he showed up because the character goes home. He goes back to the interior, and [Randy is] a friend. It made sense that he was this total redneck character. That’s where he first appeared and he just kept popping up,” said Myers.
What Myers really enjoys about being Randy is taking people’s expectations and turning them upside down.
“In East, the show I did that takes place on a Greyhound bus going from Vancouver to Toronto,” he said. “It’s not explicitly Randy, but it’s a guy who gets on the bus in the middle of the night and he’s wasted and he’s rough but then he talks about love and he totally flips it around. There’s something I like about having an expectation of this guy and playing around with it. He’s a big softy really, this friendly benevolent character.”
During each show Randy will offer up some of his words of wisdom, discussing topics like: What is a redneck to why hockey still matters (a parable) to how to actually have sex in a canoe, fer real.
Randy will take the at stage the Scout Hall at 310 Cedar Street Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights on the January 20 and 29 weekends. The Friday and Saturday performances will start at 8 p.m. and the Sunday matinees will start at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $10 in advance at Eddy Music and $12 at the door. Seating is limited. Don’t wait to pick up your tickets.
