Crawford Bay Community Hall will receive $2.14 million in renovations to restore the 85-year-old building.
The Crawford Bay and District Hall and Parks Association announced it had been approved a $1.4 million grant from the CleanBC Communities Fund to restore and retrofit the building, which was constructed in 1938.
The association also received $30,000 from the Nelson and District Credit Union's Community Investment Program. The remaining balance will be covered by the hall, which has raised all but $270,000 needed to start construction.
“East Shore residents have been hearing about our plan to restore the hall for a long time," said chair Leona Keraiff in a statement. "It took more than 10 years just to raise the funds required to purchase the eight acres surrounding the building. Current fundraising began in earnest in January of 2020. Now with all this positive news, local hearts are smiling and joyful noises are returning as more people use the building."
The hall turns 86 on Nov. 4. The Community Christmas Potluck Dinner meanwhile will return after a five-year hiatus on Dec. 14.
