As the winter winds begin to blow, Taghum Hall welcomes folks inside for theatre, music, craftiness and more.
Taghum Hall is thrilled to partner with Pat Henman Productions to present Halfway There, a play by Norm Foster in which a group of women who meet for coffee every day (and know everybody’s business) catch wind of a new arrival in Sean, a heartbroken doctor — and he’s about to tip the town off its axis!
Starring Lindsay Clague, Robyn Lamb, Sydney Black, Avi Phillips, and Pat Henman — who is also co-director with Eva Myers-McKimm — this play will have you laughing 'til your sides ache and crying 'til your heart breaks, according to one reviewer. Performances are Nov. 14-16 at 7:30 p.m., with a matinee on Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at Otter Books and online.
Kids ages eight to 14 are invited to roll up their sleeves and get into the kitchen with KidsCan Bake to learn the fine art of creating deliciousness in the kitchen. They must be registered to take part in this six-week after-school program that runs Wednesdays from 3:30-5:30 p.m. beginning Nov. 6, but registration is free — the only charge is for ingredients.
More kid stuff happens in Taghum Hall’s Santa's Elves program on Nov. 22 from 3:30-7 p.m., where all sorts of seasonal crafting magic happens in partnership with our community elves, and there's dinner, too! Kids ages seven to 12 will make cards, ornaments and gifts, with registration and an affordable fee required to cover dinner and costs.
Creative stuff isn't just for kids. The next instalment of Taghum Hall’s Brushes and Lunch happens on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. with landscape artist Abby Wilson in an afternoon of acrylic painting followed by a delicious lunch. Prospective brush-wielders can find out more about Wilson on her website at www.abbywilson.ca, and go to taghumhall.ca to register.
A gorgeous seasonal concert with Anne Janelle and James Hill promises sparkle and warmth at Taghum Hall, just as the calendar turns to December. The Midnight Clear features a delightful fusion ukulele, cello, percussion, and voice as Janelle and Hill put their own beautiful spin on classic carols and original tunes on Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. Tickets are already being snapped up online at www.taghumhall.ca.
Events co-ordinator Heather Haake has been dusting off recipes, cavorting with elves, testing brushes, and overseeing the building of a new proscenium in time for Halfway There, and has been about as busy as you’d expect.
“It’s never very quiet at Taghum Hall,” she says, “and we love it that way.”
