The Nelson Leafs lost their seventh straight game 6-5 to the Dynamiters in Kimberley on Saturday.

The Nelson Leafs’ losing streak is now seven after the team lost weekend games in Fernie and Kimberley.

The Leafs gave up four unanswered goals en route to a 5-1 loss against the Ghostriders in Fernie on Friday.

Riley Enns scored twice for Fernie (21-8-4), while Ben Skarsen, Taylor Haggerty and Eric Martin added singles. Goaltender Nick Kunyk finished with 27 saves.

Jacob Armstrong made 38 saves in net for the Leafs (13-20-2), with Kane Kennedy scoring the team’s lone goal.

The Leafs had a better effort, albeit with the same result, one night later in Kimberley.

Leighton Partington scored twice for Nelson, which gave up a late goal in a 6-5 loss to the Dynamiters.

Brendon Hall, Dayden Collier and Kieran Christianson also scored for Nelson, with Armstrong returning to the pipes and making 23 saves.

Nate Tillmanns tied the game at five midway through the third period for Kimberley (25-8-3), and Danik Reeves scored the winner with just over four minutes left in regulation.

Luke Davies, Nolan Kelly, Tristan Weill and Nathan Laforge also scored for the home team, with goaltender Marc Samyn stopping 18 shots.

The game against Kimberley marked the Leafs debut for defenceman Torin Thickson, who the team signed as a free agent. He previously played 23 games this season for the Princeton Posse, where he had three goals and six assists.

Nelson has just one win in its last 15 games, but has maintained a nine-point lead on the league-worst Spokane Braves for the last playoff spot in the Neil Murdoch Division.

The Leafs continue their road trip Friday against the Chase Heat followed by a game Saturday against the Kamloops Storm. Nelson returns home Jan. 31 against the Kelowna Chiefs.
