Nelson Leafs fall to Grand Forks, beat Golden

The Nelson Leafs split a pair of weekend games as they continue to search for regular goaltending.

In Grand Forks on Friday, Brandon Gray had a hat trick as the Border Bruins hammered the Leafs in an 8-4 win.

Nate Tillmanns scored twice while Ben Edwards, Tyler Burke and Ryker Rougeau also had singles for Grand Forks (10-3-1), which outshot the Leafs 43-24. Netminder Jasper Tait finished with 20 saves for the win.

Kane Kennedy scored twice for the Leafs (9-6-0), with Jackson MacIntosh and Connor Hovelkamp also scoring. Dylan Spackman allowed all eight goals in net.

The Leafs got back on track Saturday at home.

Quinn Ramsay scored a hat trick as Nelson down the Golden Rockets 6-4.

Xaiden Bignell scored and had two assists, while Carsyn Crawford and Cale Nachai also scored for Nelson. 

Jacob Armstrong made his Leafs debut in net with 23 saves after being acquired Oct. 29 from the Portage Terriers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League for future considerations.

The Leafs have used six goaltenders so far this season, with Ryder Gregga currently out due to injury.

Evhan Allan, Draeden Bear, Reid Ashcroft and Kanye Huang replied for Golden (3-7-4). Goalie Riley Deck finished with 28 saves.

Nelson next hosts the Merritt Centennials on Friday followed by the Kimberley Dynamiters on Saturday.
