Castlegar Sculpturewalk wrapped up another year of creativity with Night of Fire.
At the celebration in Millennium Park on Dec. 6, a giant sculpture of a winged dragon, created by artists Spring Shine, Yvonne Boyd, and Christopher Petersen, was set ablaze while crowds oohed and ahhed. As the flames burned down the wooden frame, a surprise sculpture of a dragon's egg, made of shovel spades, was revealed in the embers. The egg was won in a raffle by Darlene Harshenin from Raspberry.
The 2024 winners of the Sculpturewalk were also announced at the event.
First place in People's Choice was awarded to 'Van Gogh's Cat' by Peter Vogelaar, followed by 'Life is a Circus - Bounce Back' by Sandra Bérubé in second, and 'PEARL, the Pandemic Salmon' by Jean E. Ouellon in third.
The Artistic Merit Award winners were 'A Voice for Nature' by Dmitrii Klimenko in first, 'Birth of the World' by Denis Kleine in second, and 'Season's Past' by Illarion Gallant in third.
