Basking in the glow of her election night victory, which saw her hold off the Conservatives by no grand margin, NDP MLA Brittny Anderson told reporters the historic gains made in her riding, and indeed across B.C., were the result of – wait for it – Donald Trump!
“We’ve seen the rise of conservative populism from Donald Trump," she said. "And that has bled over and been adopted by the Conservatives."
This revelation followed no less a dandy, when she blamed B.C. voters for confusing our provincial election with a federal one!
“I really believe that a lot of voters thought that they were voting Justin Trudeau out,” she said, presumably with a straight face.
Of course! It all makes sense now.
It wasn’t the radical fiscal mismanagement or the crippling debt that ensued, permissive drug policies, the homeless encampments and rise of mental illness and violent crime gone unpunished. It wasn’t the heavy-handed Indigenous reconciliation so poorly introduced, or the tone-deaf unelected advisors that David Eby came to rely on.
No. It wasn’t their fault. No sir. It was those Trudeau-hating, Trump-loving voters too dumb to notice the absence of a Liberal candidate on the ballot.
Thanks to the candidate for clearing that up.
And here I thought we were just sensible, hard-working folks sending a message to a party that has spent the last seven years squandering our money, fouling our streets, imperilling our youth and mortgaging our future, and still can't own up to their failures.
Working for us, indeed.
