Hello, my name is Steve Kang and I am currently attending Garth Webb Secondary School. We have recently been assigned a project “Lest We Forget,” where we have to learn about a soldier who served in Canada during World War II. I have been appointed to a very brave, loyal soldier named William Roy Smith who was a part of the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN). I have been given a digital file of this soldier, and I recognized that his birthplace was in Nelson, British Columbia. Due to this fact, I have reached out to your community in order to extend my knowledge about this amazing soldier. Some things that stood out about this soldier involves how young he was when he enlisted for the war. Was that normal to do in this hometown at this time of war? Another question revolves around all the soldiers. Does his hometown do anything annually or even monthly to remember these wonderful soldiers for all the sacrifices they made to keep us safe. Overall, William Roy Smith seems like an unbelievable soldier, and I was hoping if you could write a letter back with any other information about this soldier such as their experience in World War II or how this soldier was like before the war. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Steve Kang,
