The lives of animals in the Kootenays will be explored in the coming musical, Tales of the Kootenay Wild.

Kootenay Musical Theatre Society is launching a new musical theatre production in October called Tales of the Kootenay Wild. The show is based upon local author Barry Gray’s book The Great Spirit of All Animals. These exciting tales about the lives of animals in the Kootenays have been adapted for the stage by Gray and veteran musical theatre creator Doug Jamieson.

Tales of the Kootenay Wild will be presented Oct. 17-19 at Trafalgar Middle School Theatre in Nelson. The show will follow the lives of our most beloved and revered animals, large and small, through their intertwined stories. It promises to be an entertaining and compelling experience for all ages.

Masks and puppets are being created by Myra Rasmussen, artistic director of the Polka Dot Dragon Arts Society. Jamieson, creator of four successful musical theatre productions in Nelson during the past decade, including Jorinda and Fastlane to Paradise, is musical director. Several local singer-songwriters, including Bella Cat, Sapphire Guthrie, Lance Ledger, and Tobias Gray, are creating songs for the show.

You can become a member of the cast and production team! Auditions are being held June 21 and 22 for a variety of roles, ages eight and up. Email doug@kootenaymusicaltheatre.com for more details.
