What happens when a classical guitarist gets together with two jazz guitarists to celebrate the season? You get a blend of virtuosic playing, joyful music and holiday songs at A Pluckin’ Good Holiday Concert.

The Dec. 5 concert features world-renowned classical guitarist Emma Rush, Juno-award winning jazzer Mike Rud, and local guitar hero Nikko Forsberg with a special guest appearance from vocalist Sapphire Guthrie. They’ll be playing solos, duos, and as a trio, working together for the first time.

The program includes standards like a jazzy "My Favourite Things," while "O Holy Night" gets refreshed by combing the sounds of electric and classical guitar. There are some upbeat Latin tunes, and a performance of "Greensleeves" as it was first composed in the 1500s!

“This concert is a great way to kick off the holidays!" says Rush. "Our mix of traditional tunes with some of our favourites from the repertoire, and of course, some pretty fancy finger work, will leave everyone in a great mood.”

A Pluckin’ Good Holiday Concert takes place Thursday, Dec. 5, 7 p.m. at St. Saviour’s Anglican Church, 701 Ward St. The concert is presented by Nelson Guitarworks and tickets ($25) are available at Eddy Music or can be reserved at 905-807-4792.
