A boil water notice has been issued for residents who live near Duhamel Creek.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay said in a statement Friday that the notice was a precautionary measure after a system-wide water outage depressurized the distribution system.

"Water has been restored; however, users are being asked to restrict water use to essential use only until reservoir levels recover. Users will be notified when regular water use can resume."

Duhamel Creek is located at Six Mile, approximately 13 kilometres northeast of Nelson on the north shore of Kootenay Lake.

Any water used for drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making ice or brushing teeth should be boiled for one minute before being refrigerated.
