A Castlegar-area man convicted of child sex offences has been sentenced to six years in jail.

Lee S. Bonnell was tried by judge alone earlier this year. On Jan. 18, Justice Lindsay Lyster found Bonnell guilty of one count of sexual assault involving a minor and one count of sexual interference involving a minor.

On July 22, Bonnell was sentenced to six years incarceration, a 20-year national sex offender registry order, a 10-year firearms prohibition, and a DNA order.

Justice Lyster will release a written copy of her reasons for the sentence at a later date.

The victim can not be named due to a court-ordered publication ban.
