On the recommendation of the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has issued an evacuation alert for the communities of Argenta and Johnsons Landing in Electoral Area D.
The alert is due to the 735-hectare Argenta Creek wildfire on the east shore of Kootenay Lake.
A list of the 191 properties and a map can be found here.
At this time residents or visitors within the area are not required to evacuate. However, the RDCK advises people to remain vigilant and be prepared to leave the area at a moment’s notice.
The RDCK and BCWS will hold an information session on July 24 for residents of North Kootenay Lake near the Argenta and Lower Meadow Mountain wildfires.
This includes residents of Argenta and Meadow Creek, as well as residents of the northern part of RDCK Electoral Area D.
The meeting will take place at 6:00 p.m. at the Argenta Community Hall, 1024 Argenta Road.
This public information session is strictly for residents of the areas listed above.
The Argenta Creek wildfire, located east of Argenta, is described by the BCWS on the morning of July 24 as out of control.
The Lower Meadow Mountain wildfire, located southwest of Meadow Creek, measures 51 hectares and is also out of control.
In an additional move connected to area wildfires, the RDCK has closed Glacier Creek Regional Park.
