Man accused of arson released on bail, to appear in Nelson court Oct. 8

Fire crews put out a fire in Gyro Park in the forest adjoining the playground on the evening of July 24. A Nelson man is facing four counts of arson for allegedly starting this and three other fires.

A man accused of intentionally setting four fires in Nelson in July will appear in court on Oct. 8.

David Travis has been in custody in Kelowna since his arrest awaiting a bail hearing.

On Sept. 25 he was released on the condition that he attend a rehab program in Kamloops and that he wear an ankle monitor.

Travis initially also faced a related breaking and entering charge that has since been dropped.

He has not yet entered a plea to the arson charges.

On Sept. 19, the Nelson Police Department requested the public's assistance in locating video evidence of arsons that occurred on July 24 at Gyro Park, at the 1000 block of Front Street, and in the alley behind the 900 block of Simpson Road. Anyone with evidence is asked to call 250-354-3919.
