PHOTOS: Sinixt Medicine Camp held near Castlegar

The theme of the event was praying for the people, praying for the land

The Inchelium Language and Culture Association with support from the Sinixt Confederacy hosted a Sinixt Medicine Camp at Kp̓iƛ̓l̓s (Brilliant Flats) on Nov. 8-23. 

Kp̓iƛ̓l̓s is at the confluence of the Kootenay and Columbia Rivers at Castlegar. The spot is an important site for Sinixt people, history and culture.

The theme of the event was praying for the people, praying for the land.

Throughout the week, camp organizers and participants welcomed visitors including Nelson students and children from the nearby Brilliant Cultural Centre's daycare.

The event culminated in a ceremony on Nov. 23 with more than 100 people in attendance including representatives of local, regional and provincial governments as well as representatives from industry groups, Selkirk College, the Doukhobor community and members of the general public.
